Over £5,800 raised for Thames Valley Air Ambulance

The Newbury & District Agricultural Society are pleased to have been able to support and raise funds for the Royal County of Berkshire Show’s Charity of the Year.

The charity, who provide expertise and specialist equipment to patients within minutes of an emergency call, were chosen as the Show’s Charity of the Year by the Society’s President, Peter Carlisle.

Peter comments, “I am so pleased to have had the Thames Valley Air Ambulance as my chosen charity whilst I have been President of the Newbury and District Agricultural Society and the Royal County of Berkshire Show in 2018. I have been able to rest assured that all the money raised, during the many fund raising events, has gone to a very important cause.’

Thanks to support from the local community, experienced doctor and paramedic crews are able to reach people in need within minutes, ready to deliver advanced life-saving critical care that you would normally find only in a hospital A&E department.

Teams now have at their fingertips the latest life support kit such as a compact chest compressor which allows medics to continue treatment at the same time as keeping the heart pumping. They carry blood on board for on-scene transfusions and a hospital level blood analyser which can give vital information in seconds. They have hand held ultrasound machines, able to show internal injuries at the roadside, and in the last few years TVAA have extended the service by introducing a car as well as a brand new helicopter, fully equipped for night operations.

Ruth Dunkin, Head of Community & Events for TVAA, “Thames Valley Air Ambulance would like to thank everyone that supported us at the Royal County of Berkshire Show, we had a great couple of days and it was fabulous to be able to chat to so many local people about the work that we do in the area.”

Over the course of the year, the Newbury & District Agricultural Society have organised a number of events for members. From a Rogation Service in the Berkshire countryside, a Summer Party in the beautiful grounds of Rowles Farm in West Ilsley, to the Annual Ploughing Match and a stable visit in Lambourn. Thames Valley Air Ambulance also had a stand at the Royal County of Berkshire Show where they were able to promote their services and worthy cause to the 60,000 strong audience.

A total of £5,823.91 was raised from these events and presented to the charity.
