The Society’s chosen Charity are fundraising for a new £6 million pound state of the art school!

Mary Hare School is building a new Primary School to give deaf children the modern learning environment they deserve.

The primary school, which is currently based in a grade 2* listed building on the edge of Greenham Common in Newbury, is a beautiful building set in wonderful grounds but it no longer meets their needs and is difficult to maintain and expensive to modernise.

The Management team are passionate about the children in their care and know that they could do so much more for the children if they had a purpose-built, modern learning environment, situated on the same site as their Secondary School located at Snelsmore Common.

The appeal is to raise £6 million, some of which will come from the sale of the existing building. The new school will benefit children who are deaf, improving their outcomes and inspiring them to achieve even more, and the intention will be to take the best of the old school and put it into a new, bespoke building with a state-of-the-art Speech & Language and Audiology suite, ensuring the children get the education they deserve. They aim to complete the build by 2020.

Anne Munby, Fundraiser for the Mary Hare School, comments “Mary Hare Primary School appeal was launched in July with the help of Pippa Middleton, an ambassador for the school. We look forward to achieving our goal over the next few years to build a new state of the art School for primary school age deaf children on the Snelsmore Common site, Newbury.”

Kirsten Loyd, Society President of the Royal County of Berkshire Show; “I am incredibly proud to be a Governor of the school and Chairman of Trustees for the Foundation. The staff at Mary Hare School do a wonderful job in safe guarding the future of deaf children and this new building will further enhance their learning but also giving them a more enjoyable environment.”
